This week the stuff of Bloger Weekly have decided to talk about why people blog. I sat down and brainstormed ideas, and I thought back to when I opened my very first blog. At that time I was plainly owning a blog. I had no one good reason to do it. You could say that it was my experimental blog, but that will be misleading because I learned new things from each of my blogs. After a few months going at it I decided to move on to a different subject. Thus followed my third, fourth, and this blog. However, for the first time in my blogging career I am making up what I write. Of course, I first write it down, revise, discuss, and only then type, but it was still very different. In all my past blogs I was constantly updating because of something that already existed (like my last blog, which I am still going at). This time I don’t just bring the news, I also make them.
Enough about me. Now let’s get to the real reasons why people blog. I found three good reasons:
1) It’s easy to do. Unlike an actual website, in a blog everything is already there. It’s like going to an artist and telling them how to draw something instead of drawing it yourself. It’s not all that your’s, and frankly, most people are okay with that (I know I am). So your job is to write and drive views; just give the behind the scenes work to WordPress (or whatever server you are using.
2) It’s profitable. Not many people realize the full potency of their blog. Placing ads can rake in hundreds on a good blog. Selling merchandise with your blog’s logo on it can bring in money, too. Sponsoring is another option. Be creative. Think outside the box.
3) People get to see a piece of you. People get to see what you want them to see. What you post, what you sell, what you advertize, what you say, it’s all there for people to see. And believe it or not, they do.
So our discussion question for you this week is: How did you get into blogging and why?
Thank you
for joining us this week for the weekly discussion and we hope to get your answer and hear from you. Be sure to come back every Monday for a new discussion.
